"We have recorded over 1 000 cars per hour passing through the Nylplaza," said spokesperson Ashref Ismail.
He said traffic has also increased along the N4 from Nelspurit to Pretoria, the N3 from Durban to Johannesburg, also the N4 from Mahikeng through Rustenburg to Pretoria. He appealed to motorists driving on the N2 between Mthatha and Kokstad to drive carefully as the road has stray animals and potholes.
Ismail said all unregistered, unroadworthy trailers coming from neighbouring countries would be impounded.
"Traffic authority in Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga have issued a warning that unregistered, overloaded, unroadworthy trailers will be impounded," he said.
