Durban - Wednesday's expected sentencing of convicted "sugarcane" serial killer Thozamile Taki should service as a deterrent to woman abuse, the ANC Womens' League said.
"The sentencing should send a clear message that those who are abusing women's rights will soon have no place to hide," ANCWL provincial secretary Nonhlanhla Khoza said.
The league was taking a "strong stance" and expected close to 600 people to picket outside the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban.
"We are expecting people from all of our branches in eThekwini and nearby regions such as Ugu, KwaDukuza and Moses Mabhida (Pietermaritzburg)."
On December 23 last year the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban found Taki guilty on all 26 charges against him.
He killed 13 women and dumped their bodies in sugarcane plantations in Umzinto, KwaZulu-Natal, and tea plantations in Port St Johns, in the Eastern Cape.
