New Cabinet members sworn in

Pretoria - New members of President Jacob Zuma's Cabinet, including 12 new deputy ministers, were sworn in at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria on Tuesday. The new team embraced and exchanged kisses after being sworn in by Chief Justice, Judge Sandile Ngcobo.

Gauteng ANC chairperson Paul Mashatile would only be sworn at a later date because he still had to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament. Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe both attended the ceremony, hugging and greeting each other as they arrived.

The new ministers include Roy Padayachie who replaced Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda,

Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde who replaced Public Works Minister Geoff Doidge,

Lulu Xingwana who replaced Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya.

Mildred Oliphant replaced Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana,

Edna Molewa replaced Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica,

Malusi Gigaba replaced Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan,

Fikile Mbalula replaced Sports and Recreation Minister Makhenkesi Stofile and,

lastly,

Bathabile Dlamini filled Edna Molewa's shoes as social development minister.

Among the new deputy ministers are Benedict Martins for public enterprises,

Gwen Ramokgopa for health and

Marius Fransman in international relations.

After he was sworn in Gigaba said he was looking forward to the challenge of his new office, and that he knew exactly what was expected of him.
