Fire at Cape Town airport

Johannesburg - Passengers were evacuated from a terminal at the Cape Town International Airport on Sunday after an electrical fire broke out, Airports Company SA (Acsa) said.

"At about 06:30 the fire alarm was set off in the international departure lounge," spokesperson Deidre Hendricks told Sapa. "The fire and rescue team responded swiftly and we evacuated the terminal building as a precaution."

The fire did not last long and passengers were allowed back into the building just after 07:00, she said.

The cause of the fire was unknown but an assessment was being done. However Hendricks said she could confirm that it was an electrical fire.
