The student based at Ibika campus in Butterworth was stabbed several times by another student and died instantly, said Captain Jackson Manatha.
The incident happened at about 15:00 on Saturday.
"It is alleged that a 25-year-old male student arrived at the student village and found a 21-year-old student cooking... The 25-year-old provoked (the other student) and there was a fight between the two."
Manatha said the 21-year-old student has been arrested and would appear before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday on a murder charge.
