Cop gets 6 years for bribing judge

Johannesburg - A Bronkhorstspruit traffic officer was sentenced to an effective six years in prison for trying to bribe a judge, the Saturday Star reported.

Pretoria Regional Court magistrate Peet Johnson convicted Unity Lovely Mahlangu, 46, of trying to solicit a bribe from Johannesburg High Court judge Geraldine Borchers.

On Friday, the court heard that Borchers was travelling on the N4 highway on June 26, 2008 when a traffic office pulled her over for going over the speed limit.

Mahlangu attempted to solicit a bribe of R200.

The court refused Mahlangu leave to appeal.
